The Glenview District of Oakland is a peaceful, welcoming neighborhood with comfortable homes surrounding a vibrant shopping area. Located east of HWY 580 and running up the hills along Park Boulevard, Glenview’s adjacent communities are Trestle Glen, Crocker Highlands, Oakmore, Piedmont and Dimond. The Montclair shopping district is also nearby, a bit further east at the top of Park Bd., as is the majestic Redwood Regional Park.
A mix of both young and established families, Glenview has a proud tradition of block parties, festive gatherings and annual events.
Now abuzz with hip, excellent restaurants, Glenview boasts the popular spots Bellanico and Marzano – plus a nearly-completed restaurant from the folks at the legendary À Coté on College Avenue. The well-stocked Savemore Market, Ultimate Grounds Café, Blackberry Bistro and Glenview Ace Hardware are also regular stops for the locals.
Many of the Glenview homes are handsome bungalows with sitting porches, built during the Oakland housing boom from the 1910’s through 1930. Along the tree- lined streets you will see architecture reflecting Craftsman, Art and Crafts and California Cottage – plus a number of larger “traditional” styles. Glenview is also an excellent walking neighborhood, especially with Sausal Creek trail and Dimond Park nearby.
Commuting is easy; with nearby freeway access, direct downtown SF and Oakland bus service, as well as the ever-popular casual carpool to the SF financial district. Glenview Elementary School is a local favorite, with a very active PTA and a dedication to providing an excellent student experience. The Glenview Neighborhood Association (GNA) is active involved in voicing the needs of the Glenview Community and getting things done.
